Counselling provides the opportunity to explore thoughts and feelings, to identify worries and concerns, to create self-awareness and develop coping mechanisms to help bring about change.

Our person-centred, integrative counselling service means our counsellors can work with you using a range of tools and techniques to help you, such as:

Sand Play

Sand Play

Through the creation of a three-dimensional picture in sand, a client works to gain greater insight into what is going on for them in relationship to self and others, to understand their behaviours and relationship dynamics, to identify where change would be beneficial and to explore how such change may be brought about.

TFT & EFT

Thought Field Therapy (TFT) and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

TFT and EFT uses the stimulation/tapping of acupressure points to address negative emotions, physical pain, repetitive thoughts etc.
Creative Interventions

Creative Interventions

These include art/painting, music, poetry, letter writing and memory boxes.
NLP

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP can be effective in dealing with phobias, depression, replacing negative behaviours and habits with positive ones helping you to cope better.
TLT

Time Line Therapy (TLT)

TLT works to release the effects of past negative experiences such as anger, depression, sadness, anxiety and chronic fear allowing a client to gain emotional control over their life and work towards attainable goals.

"My sessions with the counsellor have really helped me through the most difficult time of my life.  The counsellor helped me and empowered me to ‘think outside of the box’.  She has given me the tools to deal with situations in a positive and assertive way.  I feel that without this fantastic counsellor’s help I wouldn’t have coped as well with my situation.  I am now ready to go back to work after one year off following surgery and chemo and that’s thanks to Action Cancer."

"The support received was excellent.  When I started my first session my anxiety was ruling my life.  however, after a few sessions and chatting I had much more control over how I was feeling.  I found using techniques that we had chatted about helped me get back control.  My sleep improved and my overall mood was better.  I will continue to use these techniques anytime my anxiety decides to come back."

"Talking to a counsellor was extremely helpful at a time that I did not always want to burden family and friends.  As a carer, I felt I needed to be strong for my partner who has the cancer diagnosis and for his children who had lost their mother to cancer in 2006.  Having someone to talk to about my concerns was invaluable."
